Escape the city buzz and embark on one of the most rewarding Ninh Binh day tours from Hanoi available. This carefully curated 1-day journey takes you deep into the heart of Vietnam's historic landscape — where ancient dynasties once ruled, sacred limestone peaks rise from emerald rice paddies, and timeless villages still live by the rhythm of the seasons.
Begin your adventure with a guided visit to Hoa Lu — Vietnam's very first imperial capital, dating back over 1,000 years. Discover Hoa Lu's royal temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang and Emperor Le Dai Hanh, and feel the weight of history beneath centuries-old stone carvings. From there, saddle up for a scenic cycling route that winds through peaceful local villages — a rare, authentic glimpse of rural northern Vietnam that most tourists never see.
The centrepiece of your day is a two-hour boat journey through Trang An — a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its extraordinary karst landscape, mysterious cave tunnels, and crystal-clear waterways. As your wooden rowing boat glides silently through towering limestone cliffs and emerald grottos, you will understand exactly why this place is called 'Halong Bay on land.' Cap the experience with a generous Vietnamese buffet lunch before your comfortable return to Hanoi.
07:25–08:00: Hotel pick-up from Hanoi Old Quarter / Opera House area. Your guide meets you at your accommodation door — no need to find a meeting point.
09:15: Rest stop (15–20 min) — stretch your legs, grab a coffee, and enjoy the countryside scenery as Ninh Binh's dramatic landscape begins to appear on the horizon.
10:15: Arrive at Hoa Lu Ancient Capital — Vietnam's first royal capital (968–1010 AD). Visit the beautifully preserved temples of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang and Emperor Le Dai Hanh. Discover Hoa Lu's significance in shaping Vietnamese nationhood, guided by fascinating stories from your expert local guide. Then hop on a bicycle and pedal through the surrounding villages — past lotus ponds, rice fields, and friendly locals going about their daily lives.
12:00: Buffet Lunch at Ninh Binh Restaurant. Feast on a wide spread of local specialties: Ninh Binh goat meat, fresh spring rolls, crispy fried rice, seasonal fish dishes, chicken, and vegetable salads. Vegetarian options are always available. Conical hats provided — wear yours for the classic Vietnam photo!
13:30: Board your traditional wooden rowing boat and begin your 2-hour journey through Trang An. Glide through a labyrinth of karst peaks, flooded valleys, and nine mysterious cave tunnels. The silence, birdsong, and sheer grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage landscape are something most travellers describe as the highlight of their entire Vietnam trip.
16:00: Board the limousine bus for a comfortable return journey to Hanoi.
18:30: Drop-off at your hotel in Hanoi. Tour ends. Safe travels!

We booked this as a couple looking for something beyond the typical tourist experience in Hanoi. The cycling through the village was a wonderful surprise — peaceful, green, and completely authentic. Trang An lived up to every photo we'd seen online. The whole day was incredibly well-organised from pick-up to drop-off. We will definitely book with this company again.
I'm a solo traveller and was a little nervous joining a group tour, but this was perfect. The group was small and friendly, the pace was relaxed, and our guide David knew everything about Vietnamese history — his storytelling at Hoa Lu gave me goosebumps. Trang An is something truly special. Genuinely one of the best day trips I've taken in all of Southeast Asia.
One of the absolute highlights of our two weeks in Vietnam! The boat ride through Trang An was jaw-dropping — my kids were completely spellbound by the cave tunnels. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and made us feel like locals, not tourists. The buffet lunch was also surprisingly good — the goat meat is a must-try! Would recommend this Ninh Binh day trip to every single person heading to Hanoi.

Absolutely. This tour is rated Easy and is designed to be enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels. The cycling section is leisurely and flat (approximately 3–4 km through village paths), and the boat ride at Trang An requires no physical effort at all. Children love the cave tunnels and boat trip! Families with young kids are very welcome.
Hotel pick-up begins between 07:25 and 08:00 depending on your hotel's location within Hanoi. We collect guests from hotels in the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem, and Opera House areas. Trang An is widely considered the inland equivalent of Halong Bay — many travellers who have done both actually prefer Trang An for its peaceful atmosphere, lack of crowds, and UNESCO-protected authenticity. The boat journey takes you through nine cave tunnels and past towering limestone karst formations reflected in emerald water. It's a genuinely magical experience that we highly recommend.
Yes! The buffet at Ninh Binh Restaurant always includes a dedicated selection of vegetarian dishes. If you have specific allergies or dietary needs (gluten-free, halal, etc.), please inform us at the time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing — long trousers and covered shoulders are recommended for temple visits at Hoa Lu (out of respect). Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat. Comfortable walking/cycling shoes are ideal. The tour provides raincoats and conical hats if needed. A small day bag, camera, and a good mood are all you really need!
This is a group tour that operates daily, subject to a minimum number of participants. In the rare case of a tour cancellation, you will be offered a full refund or rebooking to your next preferred date. We recommend booking with free cancellation and purchasing travel insurance for peace of mind. Please contact us directly for our latest booking terms.

CanadaThis was our second visit to Ninh Binh and it was even better than the first, thanks to the quality of the guide. He answered every question our 8-year-old could throw at him — and believe me, that's a lot! My daughter still talks about 'the cave boat' months later. The limousine bus was comfortable and punctual both ways. A flawlessly run day tour.
