This 2-day Sapa tour from Hanoi is built for travellers who want the real Sapa experience — not a rushed day trip, but two proper days of trekking through rice terraces, visiting authentic hill tribe villages, and waking up in the mountains — without the high cost of the overnight train.
On Day 1, explore Cat Cat village — a Black H'mong settlement tucked below the Fansipan foothills — before an overnight stay in a comfortable Sapa hotel. On Day 2, lace up your boots for the tour's centrepiece: a 9-km guided trek from Y Linh Ho through the spectacular Muong Hoa Valley, into Lao Chai and Ta Van villages, where H'mong and Dzay communities still live by centuries-old traditions.
Everything is included from $110 USD — sleeping bus, hotel, all meals, entrance tickets, and expert guides.
06:00–06:30: Welcome at the bus station. Board the sleeping bus and depart from Hanoi toward Sapa. Settle in, get comfortable, and let the city give way to the highway north.
07:30–11:45: Travel northwest along the expressway toward Lao Cai City. A comfort break is included en route. Watch the landscape shift from the Red River Delta flatlands to the mountainous terrain of the northwest.
11:45–13:00: The bus climbs from Lao Cai into the mountains on the winding road to Sapa. Terraced hillsides, cloud-filled valleys, and the first glimpses of the H'mong highlands appear through the windows. Worth staying awake for.
13:00: Arrive in Sapa Town — a colourful highland town at 1,600m above sea level, where women in traditional H'mong, Dzao, and Tay indigo dress weave through the market streets. Welcome drink and tour briefing from your guide. Lunch with local Vietnamese dishes. Hotel check-in.
14:30: A 2-hour guided walk down to Cat Cat village — home of the Black H'mong people, nestled in a deep valley at the foot of Fansipan Peak. Your guide introduces you to the villagers' way of life: traditional weaving, silver jewellery making, and subsistence farming. Trek down to the valley floor, where the French built a hydraulic power station in the colonial era, and on to the waterfall — a beautiful photo spot. Trek back up as the afternoon light catches the terraced hillsides. Return to Sapa by vehicle. Trek: ~2.5 km · 2 hours
17:00: Free time in Sapa Town. Explore the market, stroll the lake promenade, or simply sit with a coffee and watch the mountain fog roll in. Dinner together with your group at a local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Meals: Lunch , Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel in Sapa
07:00–07:45: Breakfast at the hotel. Pack a light daypack for trekking — leave large bags at the hotel storage.
08:00: Drive to Y Linh Ho village. The day's main trek begins: 9 km through the heart of the Muong Hoa Valley — one of the most photographed landscapes in Vietnam. Walk along the Muong Hoa Stream through terraced rice paddies and past traditional farmhouses, with the Hoang Lien Son mountain range rising on all sides. Enter Lao Chai village, a Black H'mong community where your local guide (an H'mong woman from the village) will introduce you to daily life, agricultural rhythms, and the community's long history in these mountains. Continue to Ta Van — a Dzay ethnic village with a distinct cultural identity, architecture, and way of life that contrasts interestingly with Lao Chai. Trek: ~9 km · 3.5 hours
11:30: Pick up by bus at Ta Van Bridge. Drive back to Sapa.
12:00–13:00: Freshen up at the hotel (shower available). Check out. Lunch in Sapa with time at leisure — browse the market for local handicrafts, try the local Sapa wine, or simply sit on the terrace and take in the mountain view one last time.
13:30: Gather at the hotel. Meet your group and prepare for departure.
14:00: Board the bus for the return journey to Hanoi, with two comfort breaks en route.
20:30–21:00: Arrive back at the bus station in Hanoi. Tour ends. Safe travels — and thank you for choosing Halong Bay Cruises.
